Sunday June 2nd
It's just a little over a year since we said a sad farewell to our great friend and former Wrexham RC Chair Barry Williams who passed away at just 45 after a six year battle with brain cancer, leaving behind his wife Suzanne and young daughters Seren and Bethan.
In celebration of Barry's life and of his determination to continue with his cycling goals in the face of his illness, members from the two clubs of which he was a member (Wrexham RC and Ruthin CC) are holding a Barry Williams memorial ride on Sunday June 2nd 2019. The route will pass by his home in Penyffordd and Ruthin where he is buried with the intention to arrive in Ruthin in time to watch the Welsh RR championships. Barry was a frequent volunteer at cycling events - supporting everything from the local Wrexham RC Go-Ride events to the Tour of Britain stage race - and I'm sure he'd have offered his services to this event too so it seems fitting to combine his memorial ride with a sporting championship.
During his illness Barry raised a lot of money for the Brain Cancer charity and we'd like to encourage members who join the ride as well as supporters who can't make it to think about making a donation. Cancer can affect anyone - even the fittest like Barry - and every pound raised goes towards finding a cure.
Start will be at Alf Jones Cycles, Gresford, Wrexham LL12 8NT at 09:00.
Route will be 50 miles from Gresford to Penyffordd, Ruthin and back to Wrexham.
Please click the Facebook event to see up to date details and to confirm if you are intending to join the ride.
Any donations to the Brain Tumour Charity in the name of Barry Williams would be welcomed.
Thanks
